Compared to many other social causes and societal ills, child sexual abuse is at once straightforward and complicated. It is straightforward in the sense that in the Western world, its status as a horrible crime against humanity is acknowledged virtually unanimously. It is complicated in that society has not yet evolved to the point of really understanding it or having the stomach to discuss it openly, a circumstance that both perpetuates abuse and further isolates its victims. I am a survivor and am grateful to Darkness to Light (www.d2l.org), a strong example among the numerous fine organizations working to protect young people, to educate society and to support other survivors. “Fuzzy” illustrates the industriousness with which young people can find solace and strength amid unsafe circumstances, in this case through a stuffed friend.
