Approximately one in every hundred children has some form of autism. With several forms of the condition of varying degrees of severity on the spectrum, ranging from Asperger syndrome to "classic" autism, it's no wonder that it is still often misunderstood. Having grown up with autism in my family, I often perceive it as nothing out of the ordinary, and forget that others are not as used to certain things as I am. A friend once told me that I don't talk about my autistic siblings differently than anybody else; to me, they have always been simply themselves: unique and special. Proceeds from the sale of this song will go to Autism Speaks (www.autismspeaks.org), an organization that helps to spread awareness of autism and to promote autism research.
