With unprecedented heat waves across our country, crop-killing droughts in the Midwest, and rampant wildfires in my home state of Colorado and elsewhere, global warming has become not just something you hear about, but something that you can feel. Weather is no longer a mundane topic of conversation, and too often, it isn’t a topic of conversation at all. “Reason for Concern” personifies the seasons and ponders the question of what can be done when we’ve upset the basic equilibrium of our planet, and whether the weather will weather the storm. We may not be able to turn back time and undo the damage we’ve done, but that isn’t any reason not to try. The Union of Concerned Scientists (www.ucsusa.org) is an organization that does just that: they work toward substantive solutions to some of the greatest challenges we face, and with any luck, they may just help us unbend this twisted paper clip.
