The Tongass is the largest national forest in the United States. These beautiful and sacred lands are home not only to a lush diversity of wildlife, but also to native people who have lived on these lands for over a thousand years. Sadly, the growing privatization of this forest has led to clear-cutting and road building that is greatly jeopardizing those who live off this land – man and animal alike. Unkempt logging roads lead to dangerous runoff in the water supply, clearcut areas are regrowing too thick for wildlife to inhabit and our desire for profit is justifying these gross actions. This song is a melancholy lament of the love for these wild lands, celebrating both what they can give to us and what we've taken from them. We ask that you listen to our music carefully and help save the Tongass by contributing what you can to the Alaska Conversation Foundation (alaskaconservation.org).
